The purpose of the "Original Billy Possum Brand" full-flow oil filter attachment is to filter all of the oil that is pumped throughout the engine. Whereas the early 6-cylinder Chevrolet engines had no oil filter at all, all modern engines provide continuous filtering of all of the oil. Clean oil means prolonged engine life. Non-filtered oil pumped to the bearings and other moving parts in an engine carry abrasive particles just where you do not want them.
Our filter attachment also replaces the original oil distributor valve. In addition to providing oil to the main and connecting rod bearings, oil is also pumped to the rocker arm shafts which distribute oil to all of the rocker arm bushings.
One further purpose of the oil distributor valve is to provide the pressure indicated on the instrument panel oil pressure gauge. Purchase oil filter separately.
