The original accessory 1939 Chevrolet hood ornament came in two versions: Low Wing or High Wing. This is the plastic insert for the HIGH WING version of this accessory. The new plastic insert comes with a protective coating on the outside to prevent scratching prior to installation.
Before peeling off the protective coating, take an old toothbrush and clean out the four grooves on the side. If you want to paint the grooves, now is the time. After painting (and before it dries), carefully remove the coating. Allow to dry completely before installation.
To remove the original plastic insert, turn the ornament over and you will see a small set screw on the bottom. Back out the screw, remove the small spring and the plastic insert will come out easily. Install the new insert, replace the spring, tighten the set screw and you are done!
NOTE: Our insert was copied from an original. This insert may not fit reproduction ornaments. Dimensions: Overall Height at tallest side is 3-3/16", Length at top of wing is 4-13/16" Long, Height at short end is 15/16" High.
