This is a Polished Stainless Steel Emblem Backing for 1931 Chevrolet Accessory Stone Guard. This piece is soldered to top opening in the mesh. The emblem is mounted to this backing, which nearly covers the entire backing, leaving a shiny edge around the emblem. The backing has all of the proper reliefs to accommodate mounting the upper stone guard to the grille and mounting the emblem to the backing. This backing is what holds the stone guard to the grille shell at the top.
Once the emblem backing is soldered to the stone guard mesh, the upper part can be anchored to the grille shell. It takes special hardware to hold the stone guard at the top and bottom.
Grille emblems had a different mounting ring that was used for mounting to the stone guard backing. This piece is not reproduced. If you are using a reproduction emblem with a stud mounting, it will need to be removed for mounting to the backing. With the stud removed, simply use clear silicone for mounting the emblem to the backing. Use a sufficient amount to hold it in place and pay close attention to the edges. There should be about 1/16" stainless edge showing all around the emblem. Let it set up at least 24 hours. Don't use too much silicone or it can get messy.
This part fits most 1931 Chevrolet Cars and Trucks.; exceptions may apply. Please read the complete description to see if this part fits your specific vehicle and application.
